Spending time volunteering in Africa led to the inception of JHA FUND, a non-profit initiative based in Antalaha, Madagascar, equipping youth for a future of possibilities by addressing barriers to education.
JHA FUND‘s objectives are:
- to create environmental protection projects by promoting community and school participation, together with C.R.E.E. (centre de recherche en Ă©ducation environnementale/environmental education research center), Education Municipality Leaders (locally known as “chef ZAP”), GIZ, and Macolline Botanical Park
- to open doorways to basic pedagogy and health care all over the vanilla growing region, including at the C.A.L.A. leprosy villages where we provide a warm lunch at the schools and sponsor children in higher education
- to promote access to employment opportunities, global engagement and higher schooling

Why Madagascar?
A friend, importer of Madagascar’s famous vanilla Aust & Hachmann Canada, often talked about the SAVA (Sambava, Andapa, Vohemar, Antalaha).
He explained his many humanitarian and development ventures, one being the company’s involvement in sustaining the leprosy community schools in the vanilla region. The villages are run by the NGO C.A.L.A., an alliance that supports leprosy survivors and their families by helping them to settle, have access to medical aid, a home, support and food.
I was intrigued as he described the country. From the moment I arrived in 2013, I was surrounded by wonderful locals.
Madagascar is one of the most beautiful places on our planet filled with rare and unique biodiversity.
It is also a nation with one of the highest rates of deforestation.
A magnificent country boasting incredible flora and fauna as well as warm inviting communities, full of warmth and smiles, Madagascar is among one of the poorest populations in the world, where the threat and reality of leprosy still exists.
Our efforts depend on those who believe in our vision and mission. Your contribution, whatever the amount will make a difference.
Anything is considered generous in our world, so I encourage you to participate. Thank you for your interest and the people of the SAVA are always thankful.
There are many people who are eager to learn and improve their country’s situation, they just need opportunities. If you can help me to help them, then we’re all making a difference together.

bonjour JOE, comme je suis ingrate de ne pas t’avoir Ă©crit mais sais-tu que je suis rentrĂ©e si fatiguĂ©e que je suis mĂŞme allĂ©e Ă l’hĂ´pital pour expliquer un Ă©pisode de fièvre qui m’a terrassĂ©e? les rĂ©sultats nĂ©gatifs excluent un lien avec Madagascar, ouf! et je vais mieux retrouvant de l’Ă©nergie peu Ă peu.
j’aime beaucoup ton site, les photos sont superbes, mais je suis toujours un peu nulle en anglais!!! j’ai rĂ©ussi Ă comprendre Ă peu près!!! et je ne suis pas experte en informatique non plus!!!!
